Beloved, today's readings call us to live a faith that is genuine, disciplined, and visible through our actions. God does not want us to be Christians only by appearance. He desires that our words, actions, choices, and character reflect the faith we profess. In the First Reading, Saint Paul encourages the believers to live responsibly and to imitate the good example he gave them. He reminds them that he worked diligently so that he would not become a burden to others. His message teaches us the value of discipline, responsibility, diligence, and good example. Our Christian faith should not make us careless about our responsibilities. Prayer and work should go together. We are called to trust God while also doing our part faithfully. In the Gospel, Jesus strongly rebukes the scribes and Pharisees for hypocrisy. He compares them to whitewashed tombs beautiful on the outside but filled with uncleanness within.
Jesus is not condemning people for being imperfect. Rather, He warns against pretending to be righteous while refusing to allow God to transform the heart. This is a powerful invitation for us to examine ourselves. It is easy to look holy before people. It is easy to post Bible verses, attend religious gatherings, sing worship songs, or speak about God. But what matters is whether our hearts are truly being transformed.God sees beyond appearances.
He sees our motives. He sees our thoughts. He sees our private choices. He sees the person we are when nobody is watching. Beloved, don't focus only on looking good before people. Ask God to make you good from within.
When our faith is genuine:
Our private life agrees with our public confession.
We become responsible and diligent.
Our actions demonstrate the love of Christ.
We stop living for people's approval.
Our lives become examples that others can follow.
Today's Psalm reminds us that those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways are blessed and will enjoy the fruit of their labour. Beloved, let your Christianity be more than an appearance. Let your prayer produce obedience. Let your faith produce good works. Let your worship produce holiness. Let your encounter with Christ produce love. May the person people see outside be the same person God knows inside.
