Beloved, today's Gospel brings us to one of the most important questions Jesus ever asked His disciples: “But who do you say that I am?” Jesus had heard what people were saying about Him, but He wanted to know what His disciples personally believed. Simon Peter answered with faith and conviction: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” This was more than a statement. It was a declaration of faith. Peter recognized Jesus not merely as a prophet, teacher, or miracle worker, but as the promised Messiah and Son of God. Jesus then blessed Peter and entrusted him with a special responsibility, declaring that upon this rock He would build His Church and give him the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Today's Gospel challenges each of us personally: Who is Jesus to you?
Is He only the One you call when you need a miracle? Is He only the One you worship when things are going well? Or is He truly the Lord of your life, the One whose Word you trust, whose will you follow, and whose teachings guide your decisions? The First Reading speaks of God entrusting authority to Eliakim and giving him the key of the House of David. This points us toward the authority and responsibility God gives for the care of His people. The Second Reading reminds us that God's wisdom and ways are far beyond human understanding. Everything comes from Him, exists through Him, and ultimately belongs to Him. Beloved, when you truly recognize Jesus as Lord, your perspective changes. You may not understand everything happening around you, but you can trust the One who holds everything in His hands.
When Jesus is truly Lord of our lives:
Our faith becomes stronger.
We receive courage to face difficult seasons.
We learn to trust God's wisdom above our own understanding.
We become faithful witnesses of Christ.
The storms of life cannot destroy our foundation.
Beloved, build your life on Christ. People may change. Circumstances may change. Opportunities may come and go. But Jesus Christ remains the same. Let your heart proclaim today: “Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. You are my Lord, my hope, my strength, and my salvation.”
